Hello, I have a question about Evinrude E tec motors. What is the difference between an E tec 200 H.O and a regular E tec 225? Is there a difference in size of cowling, performance, and or hp? Which motor would better suite a 1982 20' Hydrodyne? It is legal for a motor to produce 10% more power than it is labeled. Why would you want to do that? It could be a boat rating, a class of boat rating, or a lake rating. Over the years, many motors have been produced that do that. They have special labels that are essentially code to indicate that. Some have had stiffer mounts and low water pickups so that they can run surface piercing props on high performance boats. The manufacturers have historically not published the actual hp or torque ratings or advertised the differences. Even the people that should know don't all agree on the specs for the 200HO. I suspect that it has stiffer mounts, a lower unit that can run surface piercing props, and produces close to 220 HP. There are probably other differences. The 225 and 200 HO are both the 3.3 liter engine. I doubt that you could tell much difference on a 20 Dyne running typical water ski prop heights. If the 225 is cheaper, I would go with that. If you are considering a used motor, I would go with the 225. jim
Physically they are the same. 200HO uses a similar fuel map as the regular 225. Regular 225 is no longer available in 20" shaft new. 20" shaft engines 200-250 are now only available as HO. 200HO is the best bang for the buck engine Evinrude makes IMO.
