Hello all I just bought my first hydrodine It's a 94 grand sport I hand it shipped to me in Australia But they took the dash off to save in hight when shipping I have found that under the dash screwed to the deck is a small circuit board And around 9 wire to go to it Help Can anyone get me a picture from there boat showing where wires go And what is this board for Thanks all Peter
Hi Peter, and welcome to the forum, Boat wiring is usually fairly simple. There are not many systems. I think the best advice I an give you is to find someone that understands it and have them walk you through it, or do it for you. jim
I'm not sure what the circuit board is for but you can decode it by the color of the wires going to it/comeing from it. If not you could probably get rid of it and re-wire your dash by color codes. Is the circuit board totally disconnected? Black is always ground and red is always battery. Assuming you have a Mercruiser engine purple is ignition (same as battery but only live with the key on), gray is tach. Look at your bilge and light switches and see where power is comeing from. I have a Merc outboard wiring color code chart that I can post if you think it would help.
Hi Peter and folks: The newer boats (especially the inboards) have gone to a complex wiring harness which can be very taxing for us old school folks. The wiring color codes also may vary as well from the manufacturer. Maybe you will get some support from someone who has a similar Hydrodyne vintage on this site but the older hulls were kept pretty simple. My best and good luck sorting, Kevin-
Peter, Mine's not out of storage yet (probably grab it sometime this month now that we have ice-out). I'll look under my dash and see if I have anything similar, but it doesn't strike me as terribly familiar.
It is probably an aftermarket add-on. I would not worry about it as gauge wiring is pretty easy. All you need to do is identify the hot (red) wire, and the ground (black) and take it from there with senders and signal wires.
Peter - I took a peek under my dash quick last night, and the only thing that might include that board is the attached picture (which I believe is the ignition beeper - the tone for key on/engine off). It was already late after doing a few other projects, so I didn't have the time to see if it comes apart or not. I see about 8 or 9 wires in the harness going into it, which would seem to match up with the number of blade connectors on the board you have. If I can find some time tonight, I'll try to open it up to get you a picture of what wire goes where. It's located pretty much directly behind the helm.
Thanks That might be it When I turn the key no beeps Like merc cruiser low oil etc Even though a PCM Engine run fine all gauges are working to
