Well I havn't posted on here for awhile! It is awesome how this Site has grown.

I have a 74 dyne with 302 I/O and mercruiser outdrive, I bought this boat right before I went ot Korea for a tour (Army) for hardly no money. I have torn the most of the floor out of it, and I will be taking it to my brothers in AL. He will be working on it while I'm in Iraq, He and his father inlaw rebuild boats on the side. I would rather have them working on it then sitting for another 15 months or so.

Everybody says to just convert it to an OB since i have to rebuild the subfloor and transom. There is a crack, in the glass of the transom, all the way around it on the inside. I want to keep the 302 becuase i know how to work on them and have delt with I/O all my life. I would love to redo the transom so it looks like the older I/O like in this thread:

But for some reason it looks like my engine cowl is alot taller then this one? Is there dif heights with the cowl or is it just an allusion with contoured (sp) transom, or becuase of the subfloor? Well any help will be appreciated I would love to be able to mod the transom, but if i can't then I'll live with it.

Here are alot of pics i took of mine after I tore the carpet out and inspected it when i got back from Korea

Thinking of color matching the truck trailer and boat??

Oh yeah my plans are to fix all the wood/glass work and paint it bright red with a white and blue strip on the bow, kind-of opposite ya know. Blue and white interior.

well thanks for looking any help will be appreciated

The exhaust manifolds and the carburetor dictate the height of the cover. I believe the cover on yours is a generic one which was designed to also clear the inline six. If you put the cover on with the engine in place and look through the openings you will be able to tell how much you could lower it. It is helpful to remove the grills.

I designed a new handle for the Morse shifter which allowed a trim switch in the throttle handle. This is a valuable modification. I let the wires go down the out side of the shifter handle on the inner side. It worked pretty well and I am sure you could build a better one.

The mod allows you to keep your hand on the wheel and throttle and still trim. The boat is easier to handle for skiing.

The 302 is a good motor in my opinion. My Dyne had a 305 Chevy in it before I converted it to an outboard. I have run the 302 in an I/O configuration and I liked it.

Well I just went out to the garage and looked at it, I see what your saying. My cover has a clearance spot for the carb on a inline 6 engine on the pass side! from what i just looked at I could, in theory, just cut about 3-4 inches off the bottom of it then it would be about the same height as the earlier ones! I just don't want to cut to much, becuase once I get the hull/glass work done I will be working the engine then putting new heads, manifold and a 4 barrel carb. Maybe even a cam depending on money ya know!

    Thanks for help!

If anybody looks at the photo's in the album that I posted, and wants to give me know any other comments or experiance that you all know about the condition mine is in, it will be appreciated!

I am surprised that you have that much clearance on the exhaust elbows.
