I own a storage facilty near Dallas, TX and somebody left a '71 hydrodyne tournament skier in storage and gave me the title! I know nothing about these boats but it looks like a very unique, fast boat. Can anybody help me identify this boat and what my next step should be? Thanks
I guess I should've been more elaborate, sorry. It says Chrysler 250 on the outboard drive, is this a 318, 340, or 360? It looks to be in good shape, hull and floor seem solid, but it's been sitting since 1995 collecting dust. I guess what I want to know first is what its worth and then decide if its worth restoring. I have yet to find another one like this online, I was hoping you guys could help, thanks.
Here are some pics of my new boat. There is about 6 inches of dust on this thing, there are 2 blue stripes across the bow and again, it looks like a small block chrysler not sure of the cubic inches. It has an edelbrock carb on it and that is about all I know. I don't know if I want to keep it or sell it yet...
After about 3 minutes of research on google I think it is a 340. It is a very good ski boat. I would estimate the top speed to be between 45 and 50, which is not particularly fast with that power. The market for boats is down in this economy. If you need a ski boat, I would say keep it. jim
Thanks Jim, I am getting excited about this boat the more I try to research it. You say it's not that fast? Is it too heavy? It looks like a screamer! Any chance that edelbrock carb boosted the power/performance? Any idea where I could get factory style replacement seats, the ones that are in it now look like bass boat seats, they can't be original...
The boat looks like it is going 100 just sitting there. The round (soft) chine design has a lot of wetted area and drag. The speed estimate I gave you will be close, you might a little more than 50. The I/O is heavy compared to an outboard. Seats are an ongoing problem with Dyne restoration. The originals are not commercially available. Seats are a personal choice. Most people go with aftermarket seats because that is the easiest way. Some of the original seats were pretty utilitarian, and looked a lot like bass boat seats. I think a ski boat should have a rear facing bench or L shaped seat. The drivers seat needs to be fairly narrow if you go with a bench. One of our members put some Mastercraft seats in that looked good. jim
Well, we are getting started this weekend I think. Gonna have a good look at the lower unit and the motor I hope. I will post pics, the end result will be pretty amazing I think. Thanks everybody, I am sure there a ton of questions still coming...
