I want to move my ski pylon so I can put a bench seat across the back, as you know, it is in front of the read gunnel and angeled towards the front.
Has anybody ever drilled a hole thru the fiberglass and used the same floor brace ? I know that I will have to cut the length off the rear support bars, just wondering if anyone has done this and has any pictures.
Thanks in advance for any help... Im in the calender , in May, look at her and see if ya got any ideas ///

I have an older dyne, 18 foot. My pylon is mounted similar to the one in the picture that Jim asked for you to look at. I saw that one does not have supports however. When I redid the floor and added stringers, I built a block that the bottom of the pylon mounts too. The bottom of the pylon is made out of 1/4 steel, the tubing is square stock 2 and 1/4 inch steel, and the support brackets are one inch round tubing that go from the pylon back to the inside of the splashwell to flat stock that is through bolted through the transom. Having said all of that, I would assume that Hydrodyne changed its design for some reason, perhaps to get the pull closer to the front of the boat. Once again, I defer to Jim or Bano, those guys are much more knowledgeable about a lot of these fine details. Having said that though, my boat pulls fine and I ski behind it 3-4 days per week and it is almost 50 years old. Check out some of my posts under restoration pictures. I will try to get some pictures of the pylon for you.

    Chad,

I have always admired the lines of you boat, especially the aft deck.

You have another thing going for you in that the aft deck is much higher on your boat. The later outboards have a cut down splash-well to accommodate the tall inline motors of the day. I believe that is why the pylon has the extra supports.

If you look at the latest design, it has a high splash-well and an integral pylon like the 20. This is nice, but a skier can sort of pull the stern around, at least that was our experience.

Anchoring the pylon will be an issue as you mentioned no matter where it is moved. The floor is not strong enough, or well enough tied down for a stand alone pylon support.

I like the older style pylon like Daniel's boat too. It get's the pylon forward and it is strong provided the deck is re-enforced. It is kind of in the way, but this is a 18 foot ski-boat after all.

Here are a couple of pictures after I moved the ski pylon back, cut hole in back deck, shortend the rear two pipes and re-drilled, also have a three way pin system to remove the ski pylon to get her in the garage. Also just re-painted her, new seats and of course the new bench seat across the rear for riders !

That is a sweet lookin' boat. I have attached some pics of my pylon for you to review. I am afraid I am out of commission for a while. I had a tib fib fracture on Monday and surgery on Tuesday and will be having more surgery next week.

I was looking at your photos, considering where the stresses land and what each support and brace is doing and thought of the last ski pole I built.
