I am looking at buying the 20' Dyna Ski Boat Real Soon. I am a barefooter and trying to decide if I want twins or triples. I either want 2 115's or 3 225's all Evinrudes. Wich is better?
Do the math.... Do you need 230h.p. or 675h.p. to pull a barefooter? Price the (3) 225's and I'm sure the decision will be an easy one. Bob
Do you have a need for triples? My experience barefooting with a 20' Hydrodyne powered by a V6 200 hp. gives awsome pulling power for multiple footers (3) on long line and good handling for boom footing. You will have no problem pulling a barefooter into the 45 to 50 mph. speed range with a V6 of 200-250 hp. If you what more performance go for multiple engines but don't overlook what a single V6 will give you.
Remember multiple engines mean multiple problems. Sure you will a crazy amount of power, you could maybe get some side jobs pulling barges up and down the canals, but the only boats I see use multiple engines are larger show ski teams. Remember, your prop wash will be all wierd with multiples, you will have two or three sets of prop washes to deal with, that may make it difficult to work on tricks. Even when they were making barefoot boats with outboards, Mastercraft, Flightcraft, Centurion, etc... All of those boats pretty much had 200 horse outboards on them. Chad
I just pulled 6 guys barefooting (all 6 on slalom deep water start, then step off) with a 20' dyne and a single 200 HO evinrude. If you need more than that, then consider multiple engines.
Single 250 HO or 300 Evinrude should be motor enough for anybody. Same weight as the 200 HO and more go.
