Decided to upgrade my 85 dyne. It never had the bow stripes I see them in different configurations. What is correct way blue closer to the bow or red? What is the the proper width of the stripes? Where does the first stripe start in relation to the tip of the bow? Can someone measure theirs for me? Also I don't have the original pylon I would like to by a used one or get one made to original specs if anyone could give me measurements diameter and detailed pictures that would help. Thanks Craig

    Craig,

What year is your boat ? If it's the one in the picture it's not an '85 but somewhere in the 70's

Pete @ Dyna-Ski had a few used pylons. You could contact him and see if he'd sell one off. To have one fabricated from scratch could run into big $$$$$'s

Hi Craig and welcome to the forum. I think I like your pylon location better than the stock one if it is not in the way. The boat will be pulled around less.

The stripes were discussed at length here years ago. I will try to find the thread. The conclusion was that there are boats with red in front and others with the blue in front.

The last numbers in your identification number stamped in the transom represent the year of manufacture. The first three letters represent the manufacturer.

Can't seem to open old posts they say errors. Question why do you say this is older then a 1985? I haven't looked at the tag for several years. But have owned the boat for 15 years and always thought it was a 1985 I'll check tag tomorrow

Here are pictures of two of my Hydrodynes.

    The first is a 1985 20 footer.
    The second is a 1975 18 footer.

Which one looks more like yours?

    Welcome to the forum, capt.craigw!!

I've modified Jim's post so that the links are now correct. I was showing the errors as well. Something got screwed up somewhere with the old threads. :)

Thanks Bryan. I think I know how I corrupted the links.

The Hydrodyne manufacturer quit building the 18's in 1979 I believe. There were some 18's built after that using the same mold, but they were not built by Hydrodyne.

I have heard of a couple that were built with hull id numbers that do not comply with Coast Guard Standards. Yours is one of those and it is a very rare boat.

HID's (hull identification numbers) have a three letter prefix which identifies the manufacturer. They have 12 characters. You can read about the requirements here:

    http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm

It is hard to say when your boat was built, but the title should say. I don't believe any of this matters as long as the boat is registered.

If you feel the need to research who built the boat and when, send me a PM and I can suggest where to start.

There is another possibility. If the id number is not stamped into the outer transom, it was built before Nov 1971 and was built by Hydrodyne.
