1965 Hydrodyne Volvo Penta AQ110. Cracked exhaust manifold, water spitting out of the outer rectangular shell. Where can I find a replacement part? Can it be welded?

Short term you can use JB Weld. Heck, block engines have even been fixed by JB Weld

Thanks, about half of my friends say do it, and the other half say no way! My dilemma is that the exhaust manifold appears to have a round tube inside a rectangular shell, all cast, but water was spurting through the outer shell. Cracked in the middle. Don't know if the inner and outer are both cracked or just the outer.

Try taking the manifold in to a competent welder. I had a cracked manifold once and I did that and the welder said that since it was made out of iron he couldn't guarantee it. My other choice was to buy a new one so I had nothing to lose and he fixed it perfectly.

I had a crack just like you show. A good local shop welded it up, and I have had no further problems. I say try it!

Mine is welded also. A good welder will tell you it may not work but it has many times. They use a special welding rod with high nickel content I believe. My guy said it may drip a little but it is dry as a bone. There is little or no stress on the weld, just water flowing behind it so I think thats why it generally works.
