I have noticed that there are alot of questions on alot of different threads about ski pylons. Therefore I have decided that we need a common place for common questions. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX I am looking for a pylon that mounts to the floor in the center thru the rear splashwell and has outriggers that attach to the rear deck. I will try to post pics of what I need. I managed to post a pic of what I am looking for but it went to the top of the post.
My other option is to buy a 2 and 3/4" 48" pole from Dynaski and re-inforce the arch to take it. I also have an old ski pylon which I will not be using but here is a pic: I currently have a line on 2 acceptable poles - 1 in Fremont, WI from a member that may part out his boat and -2- a member in TX that may want my pole in exchange for his. Bring it on Hydrodyners!
I like the one you say you will not use modified to be like Daniel's. The center member should go straight back to the transom between the engines as low as possible. This gets the tow point forward for better handling. jim
The top picture is from me. When i built that boat I just took the standard tri pod Hydrodyne pylon and mounted it through the deck instead of mounting it in front outside. No modification was necessary. The mounting braces on the side had enough room to mount also. I used a 3" cabinet speaker port to use as the trim ring around the deck and it is a perfect fit. Greg
The TX member decided not to swap and I understand that. His pylon is better than mine. I have not heard from the Freemont WI lately - he is still deciding weather or not to part out his boat. I am stil looking for a pylon like the one that is the 1st pic in this thread.
Bob that is one option I am looking at. What does "RUA" mean? That boat has the center arch forward of the splashwell built up just like mine. I could buy a 2 and 7/8" diameter pylon from Pete at dynaski for $500 but would have to make the inside of my arch very strong (doable since the deck is not on the boat) and probably install a brace from the pylon to my center knee (easily doable). If Pete has one like the top pic in this thread he would probably sell it to me but the shipping would make the price about the same. My other option is the one in Fremont, WI and I have not heard from him yet. How tall is that pylon in the pic floor to top?
Here is the information on Riverside Composites (RUA) now out of business, and owned by Skip Paul: http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=RUA The last time I checked Skip Paul owned the 18 mold and it was at Tom Miller's place. He redesigned the 18 deck and built the boat pictured above, or at least it has his company id on it. Tom Miller built some boats like that in the late 90's and they had his company id on them. (FPD) which is Fiberglass Products and Boat Repair. Why not buy the tubing locally and either have an end fitting made or buy one. It is a simple lathe job. jim
X2 to Jim's comments. $500 is probably about right for an original replacement but you could do better if you wanted to improvise a little. My 20 i/o came with the original pylon and an after market skylon (assuming for wake boarding) pylon which has a tube and an insert that extends the pylon ~24 inches higher than stock. I went out on ePay and purchased a machined aluminum insert (made by barefoot international which is locally manufactured in Milwaukee, John and Mike Seipel are great guys). I think I paid ~$40 at the time. You should be able to get an extruded tube and do the same or search for a skylon pylon on the web. I've got a set of pylon brackets if you want them at the cost for shipping (probably less than $5). See attached pics for the pylon set up(s).
