Hi Mark I don't know if you rememberr me, I bought the steering system from you for my 64 . anyways, I am starting a crazy project of replacing the soft spots in the floor. crazy, because I have 0 time this winter and will be an hour here hour there project. Question is how many hours do you think are involved in replaving the floor to a useable state. I am not concerned about making it pretty right now. I just want to leave it in a solid state if I have to stop. thanks
Plantman If you have a '64, then it likely does not have the raised floor. Are you replacing balsa core or are you replacing a raised floor (stringers and glass covered plywood)? I can give you a better idea if I know what it is you are doing. Look at the pictures of my restoration (under "about dynes") and see if what you are doing is replacing a floor versus a core.
we had put a false floor in in the late 80's. it is the plywood over the stringers we are replacing as a quick side note: when we added the false floor, instead of wood stringers we took the long rolls of tubing that carpet comes on. ripped in 1/2 lengthwise and fiberglassed the "tunnels" all along the floor of the boat to support the plywood. the thought being that after the cardboard tube rotted, we would have a dome shaped stringer, thus a stronger shape to hold the plywood. Seemed to work good!
The good news is you can use the step by step guide on this website to rebuild it. I think the restoration secction is under "about Dynes" Let me know if I can provide any technical assistance.
