Hello all, The much-requested ability for members to upload videos to the site is now here. While the general functionality exists and appears to be working quite well, it's still a work in progress, and hasn't necessarily been tested in all situations. As such, please let me know any issues that may exist, or any suggestions for improving the interface, process, etc. *** Important *** The video upload script uses forum permissions in order to determine your ability to upload videos. As such, you must be logged into the forum (or have cookies enabled to stay logged in) in order to upload videos. How to upload videos: [flash=690,430]http://www.hydrodyners.com/videos/hydrodyners.swf[/flash] The member videos can be found on the traditional video page (MEDIA, on the home page), or by visiting videos.hydrodyners.com You can also view a member's videos by clicking on the "videos" link located at the bottom of the person's post. In addition, uploaded videos can be attached to posts here in the forum using the 'WMV' button. When a video is uploaded, the upload script will spit out a link to your video. It will look something like http://www.hydrodyners.com/videos/jimsw ... skiing.wmv Simply put that address between the WMV tags and the video will appear within your forum post.
No one has tried the video system? I thought there would be a bunch of people that wanted to use it. Daniel
I am sure the majority of the members on here have the majority of their videos on old VHS or HI8, and not on digital. That is why I made a tape for you with all that old footage of Dyne's from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. You have the technology to convert the footage, I do not.
The problem with that is that there isn't enough time in the day for one person to import/edit/render everybodys' video. Just as an example, a 2 hour VHS, Hi8, etc., takes 2 real-time hours just to import into the computer. Add another length of time to actually edit the video, then the computer has to render the video into usable form. That could take anywhere from many hours to days. One of my good friends who is in the media industry has an entire high-end computer that does nothing but render television commercials, movies, etc., 24/7, and just a 30 second TV spot can take an entire day to render. Of course, that's high definition video and a little different than a bunch of ski videos, but it shows how long stuff like that can take. Of course, if you don't have a dedicated machine, you've locked your main computer up for hours/days because there really isn't all that much you can do on it. Rendering videos uses a constant 100% of every single core the machine has to offer. It's absolutely impossible for Daniel to convert all the videos.
Just for the record, the videos that I submitted were already on disc. Daniel did a great job of editing them and adding music. jim
I have a digital HD Sony Handicam and have some footage to upload but just haven't had time to try it yet. I will at some point though. MarkBano
