The serial number is supposed to tell us what the drive is and the gear ratio. The only problem is that I don't know how to read it.

Is it a C or an A drive? The 16R could mean 1.6 ratio and right hand rotation. The only problem is that it is a lefty. Maybe the R is the engine rotation?

You need to talk to someone that actually knows something about this drive.

Have you figured out how to drain the oil out of the drive?

I have never seen it done, but I have read that there is a lever or some kind of handle in the rear of the engine compartment that allows the entire drive to rotate so the prop end is up when you actuate the handle. The oil then drains out the vent.

Oil is then added through the vent hole until the dipstick reads right.

Let us know if this is true.

I was wondering what that lever was for, but i was afraid to pull it, i'll try it out this weekend! Incase you can't make out the pic, it's of the back of the boat, the white wire was inserted as a pin, and i've never played with it.
    Thanks
I tested my prop once again, and it does seem to slip (seems the bushing is no longer tight) can i fix this, or do i have to send it in.

A good prop shop should be able to fix the prop if they can get the hub. Check around for a shop that has been around for a while. You might have to call on a machine shop too.

It may even be a shear pin prop and the pin is sheared.

    Where are you located?

okay it's time to call on the gear heads, after my second attempt in the water, i realized the hub was spun on the prop, the shear pin was fine. I got a used prop, with a smaller diameter, the guy told me to watch my rpm's. The prop was off of another eaton! $45.00 what a steal, I went out in the water today, and rode in the water for a bit but i was in a no wake section, once i got almost out and feathered the throddle a bit, it seemed like the prop was working, but i couldn't give it full throddle, no bit deal. I turned around and loaded another 2 persons in the boat (3 including me) and the prop spun on the hub, i dropped them off to see of maybe wrong prop for weight, and it was indeed spun, i loaded up, and checked, and it was even easier to spin by hand.
Does anyone have any ideal why i am spinning the hub? Maybe gunning it too past, i didn't think that was a problem. I'm kicking myself in the ass now, but i didn't check the new/used prop to see if it was already spun, but i was going by myself okay in the water. Is there anything else i can check, if i try to move the prop shaft side to side or back and forth, there is no play. Any ideas? your help is greatly appreciated!

I suspect that it is just old worn out props. If the hubs are indeed spun.
