    Mark,
I am online, but I doubt I could be of Dyne help as I am yet without one of my own. I started working for a repo man a couple of months ago and some weeks I think I will be able to crack the nut on a brand new 18 twin rig, then the next week falls flat on its transom.

    Hey Bob..

I was trying to run some stabilized gas through the system. Wanted to fire up the motor while the shaft was submerged in a big bin of water but couldn't when I'd start it up no water would come out of the "squirt" hole at the top so I couldn't leave it running. I was trying to figure out why it won't run water through the cooling system.. I don't own one of those devices that you hook to the hose. I guess I'll have to buy one. I had the water level up above the water intake holes on the shaft but it wouldn't draw any cooling water from the tank.

In any event, I noticed you were on line at the time and thought I'd pick your brain on it. I'm scared to try to start it again until I can get a hose attachment on it. Might even bring it to the dealer....

    Best,

    Markbano

    Mark,

I've got a set of the "ear-muffs" and you can use them if you'd like. That's what I used on mine and it worked great. ( I did have to put a piece of duct tape over the low water pick-up ports or it would have just blown through.)

    Hey Mark:

Although my setup is not an outboard, I might offer a few things. Your correct in assuming that it is not a good idea to run without water circulation through the water jacket and the telltale (water stream out the drivers side) lets you know from that drivers seat that you have flow, maybe that the telltale is plugged up. In reading some of your earlier posts, you indicated that your lake level was down and I wonder if you sucked up some lake bottom and the telltale has some silt in it. try straightening out a paper clip (or small wire) and running it up the telltale port. Does your motor have exhaust ports out the back at the base of the powerhead? If so, water should be coming out there also, once the water jacket is full. With the new 4 strokes, getting noise down was a big issue and design engineers may have all exhaust going out the prop. If no water out the telltale and water out the exhaust ports out the back below the powerhead, then likely plugged telltale. If no water from either telltale or exhaust, then likely a bad water pump in the foot (lower unit); your motor is new and unless there have been a lot of "dry starts" out of the water (which I highly doubt) the water pump impeller (little rubber paddles) should be intact.

A pair of ear muffs for the water intake on the foot are available just about anywhere now (hardware stores, Walmart, etc.). I use them all the time in the summer with a garden hose to fire up the engine after long periods of down time. It cuts down on frustration at the launch.

Hope this helps and Have a great holidays,

    Kevin-

    Mark,
You can connect a hose directly to the back of your motor where the tell tale stream comes out to flush the system. It comes out with I believe a 7/8 wrench and the hose screws right in. Also sometimes the tell tale stream does not get going for a bit while the thermostats and water jacket are filling up.

Do not run your motor with the hose hooked to the flushing port.

    Thanks guys!

I'll check into the possibility that there is a plug somewhere. The last day I used it was on Lake Minocqua, which is deep, and I had no problems.

I'm not going to try to run it again without either using a hose attachment or just bringing it to the dealer. It's not worth the chance of damaging it.

I'm sure the folks at Fox Valley Marine don't have much going on this time of year and can work it in. Now, if I could just get dry roads to get it there...
