I put an ad in a local classified looking for a 150-225 HP Fuel Injected outboard. (You see, out here in California where all these bureaucratic environmentalists thrive, you are only allowed "clean burning" outboards, but that could start a whole different thread entirely....) Confused

I got a reply back from a guy with a 225 Evinrude VRO and here's what he says about it:

"I have this Evinrude 225 that was running when taken off a boat 5 yrs ago... The VRO was pulled for another motor but I have two others... It has spark in three cylinders only and I'm not rich enough to guess on it being the power pack so I put it a side till some one bails me out on this one. Saw your ad and thought I'd answer.. It's WAYYYYYYYYYYYY to big for me any way... I know I'll never do any thing with it. I have tons of smaller motors to play with."

It sounds like the guy just wants to get rid of it based on some things he wrote about his other stuff. I don't think this is a DI or fuel injected motor that will pass the emission standards at Lake Tahoe. Can anyone confirm? Also - does it sound like something I should take on? I don't know much about the mechanical issues he is speaking of and I was really sort of thinking that 225 was a bit too much HP for me.........

I think I recall seeing that Must-Ski Motors had a 250 E-Tec for sale last fall. I do not recall hearing if it ever sold or not. I can also check with our team to see what we are doing for motors this year. There's a possibilty of there being a 2003 Evinrude 175 available.

Would definitely be interested in any motors out there, of course they would have to be of the clean burning variety. I talked to a guy at a marine center last week out here and he said that basically any fuel injected outboard will work.

Just need something between 175 and 225 with a 20" shaft. High hours or cowl damage or whatever is OK. I am trying (key word here, maybe unrealistic) to do this boat on a budget......

Probably an 87-91 3.0L Looper. Good engines, but if it is in disrepair and has not run for a while, I would stay away. They take too much time and throwing parts at them to get them back running right when they are in that state. Not to mention it is a traditional 2-smoke outboard........

All of our motors from last year are sold. There are a few DI's out there for sale as you've seen. I know of a 2006 150 DI for $7000 with 60 hours. 20", it is white, not blue, same motor, just considered saltwater series. That one would have warranty until '09.
