    Hello All,
I'm excited to announce my first Dyne now sits proudly in my driveway... a 1968 HydroDyne. I'm looking for some basic info about her or if anyone can point me to some resources that will help me I would greatful. Some of my basic questions are:

She has a Ford 302 'Interceptor' inboard engine - Is it probably original or did she orginally come with something else?

She has a Volvo Penta outdrive which I'm having some trouble identifying model # - no serial number or model number - anyone know what type of outdrive she originally came with?

She has a large crack down the center of the plexiglass windshield - Anyone know if it can be repaired (keep frame but replace plexigalss?) or does the whole windshield need to be replaced, frame and all?

    Thanks for all your help!

    That is a 1750 series - speed V (rare)

    check out these links:

The drive could be an Eaton.

You may be able to replace the plexiglass, I doubt that you will find the frame.

I think it would cool with a cut down windshield.

I think you should post your drive questions over on http://www.marineengine.com/boat-forum/forum.php Post in the interceptor area.

    Jim,
Thanks so much for the good info. The original info brochure was espeically fun to see. I've learned a lot just clicking through your links. I had already found a similar pdf to the one you linked to with all the Volvo (maybe Eaton) profiles. It looks like I might just have to id it by its profile and characteristics. I'll snap some photos of it and give your outdrive forum a try.

I'm thrilled that the engine would seem to be original and am hoping the outdrive is too. She is in pretty good shape and handled like a dream the first and only time I've had on the water. I would like to get her back to pristine original condition (with a couple of standard modern upgrades like stereo and cupholders included as well).

The prop was a little chewed up and I was told by an old salty prop guy here in Seattle that it is a Volvo 21' LH. He's repairing it now and said they're hard to find, but he'd keep an eye out for a spare just'sos'I'd have one... not sure if the prop info would help id the outdrive, but I'll give that a try in the forum as well.

Windshield - I heard the late 60's early 70's sea-rays have a windshiled that is just a touch lower profile but fit the 65-68 Dyne's great and look really good... dunno we'll see. Thanks again for the good start and suggestions.

I'll explore your windshield idea a bit more... might be a good solution. Over the years, some one added button snaps every 3-4 inches around the whole windshield frame. I'm getting a full trailer cover for the boat and am not planning on adding a bimini or anything like that so I have no use for the snaps and frankly don't care for the look very much. Ideally I'd find an entire replacement windshield in good shape, but may have too follow your advice if I can't find a good fit.

I looked at the Prop page you linked. I might be missing something, but I can't find a 21' diameter prop anywhere on that page. I think the largest they sell or make now adays is 19'.

I suspect that 21 is the pitch.

I would guess that it is 14 or 15 diameter.

You could make a windshield from lexan and leave off the top frame and it would look better.

You're right. Prop is 15' 21 degree LH Volvo... i think your link has one on therem but my salty old prop guy has a 14' he said he can fabricate into an identical 15' for about $100. thats a fair bit cheaper than new, so I might go that route.

I noticed on the sales brochure you linked that the original has a 'HydroDyne' decal or metal lettering down the side. Any idea where I might find a couple of those?

Any suggestions in general for old Hydrodyne parts like gauges, cleats, etc. for sale some place?

As always, thanks for the ideas.

On my boat the "HYDRODYNE" lettering is plastic. These are next to impossible to find.

2Mercs, one of our administrators, had a line on metal ones but I have not heard anything lately. You might want to contact him.

One of our members had some vinyl ones made and that is what I would recommend. I think he was selling them, but I don't remember who it was. Any sign guy could reproduce them and the Hydrodyners logo is close. Plus there are many pictures here.

The cleats and gauges are standard parts from that era and difficult to find, and often ugly. Most of us have replaced them with modern parts. If you could find the old gauges the accuracy would be doubtful.

I removed the cleats from my boat because the ski lines get caught on them when doing 360's around the boat. Some guys have used retractable cleats.

Well its been a while but my restoration is about as done as I'm gonna be. Since I simply couldn't find many of the old original parts I decided to do up the boat the way I think pays tribute to the original while adding modern amenities. Some areas had to be improvised (like the new dash board). the original fiberglass dash area had been cut up so bad by so many people over the years, I fabricated a new mahogany dash with all new Faria gauges, stereo, depth sounder, horn, etc. etc. etc. I'll start with some of the before and during photos:
