Well folks, here are some pictures of the (nearly) final product. The rope guard brackets are on but the rope guard itself is being made by M&R Precision and is not yet done. Next year I'd like to add some things, like a carpeted storage bin/seat at the rear (I bought the carpet to do it but have run out of time this year), a stereo, and passenger handles. However, for this year, I need to get it on the water so it is done for now. The seats swivel so you can move around the seating arrangements for skiing or riding, as you'll see in the different pictures. The boat heads up north to Wisconsin this weekend for its break-in operation. Enjoy! MarkBano
I didn't realize how long it was since I posted any pictures. Here are a couple of older pictures showing the construction of the footwell front bulkhead, which is made from 1/2 inch treated plywood and covered with carpet. The time consuming part is making a cardboard template out of cereal boxes to get the proper mold to use for cutting the bulkhead the same shape as the hull. The rest is easy. These pictures show the construction and after-installation of the footwell front bulhead, which covers the fuel tank and front floatation boxes. I've got well over 600 pictures of this boat's restoration so if anyone ever needs a more detailed picture of any aspect of the project just let me know and I'll dig. When I get time I will get a supplier list put together as well, to help others out on restorations. Now I guess I've got to get used to the idea of actually putting this thing in the water. It never occurred to me that I'd actually finish this so I've not given much thought to actually using the boat. I'll take some video of the boat in operation this weekend and send it to Daniel to post in the media section if it is possible to do that. Others should consider taking and posting more pictures. It keeps the posts interesting and it is fun to see other people's boats! Best, MarkBano
wow, everything looks perfect. Fantastic job, well worth the time and wait. I wished mine looked half as good. Enjoy the weekend. Rob
Sweet job Mark! Looks beautiful. Seats look like they were mounted perfect and low. How about a prop? Can't run that thing without one. So I will be the one to ask, what did you decide to go with? Also, make a drop down door for your rear area out of wood just like the front bulkhead. It is so easy to do, hides all that rear stuff, and looks super sweet when it is finished. Greg P.S. I too need to make a video compliation for Daniel. I got tons of footage of when I had mine, as well as old school footage of some old Dynes and ski shows.
Thanks, everyone! When the boat was at the dealer for the initial start-up and inspection, I discussed props with the service manager, who advised me that I would be out of my mind to run anything less than a 24 pitch prop. Of course, he sells bass boats and great lakes boats, not ski boats. He didn't seem to believe me when I told him that 17's and even 15's are regularly used by ski teams with these engines. In any event, I was going to buy a used prop from the dealer just to pick something to try but all of a sudden the dealer had no props available for sale. It is my view that they didn't want to sell me a prop due to our disagreement over pitch. In any event, I am going to either buy a prop at one of the dealers up north over the weekend, or just use one of the spare props that my brother has up there in his garage. He's got a Stillato SS 19 pitch and a couple of aluminum 21 pitch props. I'll just play around a bit with his props and maybe go to the dealer up there and see what they have to buy or use. I've got 13 hours or so of break in time so I'll just swap out some different things during that time and see how it goes. Best, MarkBano
There has to be a big Merc dealer in Fondulac that will have a prop. That is not much out of your way, is it? Also I am not sure your brothers boat has the same prop shaft as yours. Maybe someone can answer -- 135 Opti vs 225 Opti. jim
Mark your Hydrodyne looks fantastic. You are the envy of all of us right now. As far as props go there are authorized Mercury Prop dealers that will loan you props to take to the water and try. That way you know exactly what your buying. Edd
I just looked at a map and it is out of your way. Maybe Madison. Be careful, low pitch props can be hard to find off the shelf. jim
Mark, Beautiful job, I can't wait to see pics of it on the water. Truely and amazing restoration, it is basicly a brand new boat. Daniel
