Bought a 1994 Hydrodyne Gran Sport about 2 months ago. Love the boat. Unfortunately I'm having some minor problems I need help with. Here we go:
Steering is extremely stiff. Best advice so far says new steering cable but I can't figure out what cable to buy. No shop so far has been able to tell me. Help?

Where the prop shaft goes through the hull, leaks like a sieve. Bilge pump runs every 15 minutes or so. Help?

Would like to find a users/maintenance manual for the boat. Any ideas where one might be hidden?

    Thanks ahead of time.

For your prop shaft. You either need to tighted the packing gland (gasket) which is a flange on the shaft where it goes through the hull (usually a couple of bolts) or renew it. Sometimes you can remove the gland and regrease it and replace.

Don't know about the steering. If it is rack and pinion to the rudder, may need to grease it.

    Cheers,

    Kevin-

    Brian,

It is probably some standard Teleflex steering cable that many inboards use. It should have a number on it somewhere. If not, take a picture of the steering box and post it. If no digital camera is available, just take a good look at it and shop online. There are different lengths.

Where are you located? There is usually a shop around that specializes in inboard ski boats.

Thanks guys. I will take a picture of both ends and post them. I'm a fairly mechanical guy but I'm a out of my league with jus making the stuff up. Either of you know about a manual of any sort? i'm located just outside of Ft Wayne Indiana. A handful of shops around but the common theme seems t be "Take it off and bring it in". Been trying to avoid that but it looks as though I may have to go that way.

That is probably a good way to go. Try disconnecting the rudder end and see if it still stiff. If it is, it is the cable most likely. There are several grades of steering cable. Get a good one. As I recall the better grades are red jacketed.
