I have one of those sink style parts washers. THe Question I have is what can I replace the solvent with? Here in good ol' California we can't get PW solvent such as Safety Kleen 105 anymore. I really don't want to go with the Bio Soap stuff. So Has anyone tried Kerosene or Mineral Sprits as a solvent for one of these machines?

    Daniel,

I've used mineral spirits years ago at work, and it worked great . It used to be fairly inexpensive..but who knows with todays prices.

Be careful though because some parts washers cannot tolerate certain products - be sure to read the warnings on the tub. Some solvents can damage the pump/recirculation systems in the washer tubs.

This tub should be able to handle just about anything. Safety-Kleen 105 was petroleum based solvent which is the product this machine was developed for. Unfortunately like I stated in my last post California has taken away any solvent that has a high VOC (for those who don't know, that means any polluting type solvent)

Much like the rest of the crap in this state, (High water prices, Gas, Taxes, Vehicle Registration Fees, Electricity, and anything that has an emission output) In fact even my Lawn Mower has to be California Certified as a low emission engine. Plus I have to big lakes that are within 10 miles of my house and I can't use them since my engines are 2-Stroke. It would change anything anyways since they are no body contact. If you have not noticed I can't stand this state anymore. One of these days my company will hopefully transfer me to somewhere in the midwest.

We'd love to have you out here in the midwest.

I never appreciated the midwest until I started traveling elsewhere around the country. There is a lot to be said for the midwest.

Can one of us buy what you need and ship it to you?

I was just going to say the same thing here. Safety Kleen is based right here in Elgin. I am sure that they sell the stuff you need in some containers. Just would have to be careful shipping the stuff.

I will give the mineral spirits a try. Thanks for the option or sending the stuff out here, I was on Safety-Kleen's site and it looks as if they stopped making the 105 and now they just use a bio-degradable product called 100.

If the mineral spirits don't work I might take someone up on the offer.

    Thanks Again,
    Daniel

Number one diesel is a halfway decent cleaner for parts and is fairly safe in that it has a high flash point. It is smelly, kind of sticky as it gets old and you can get it anywhere. Use it outside to avoid having your home smell like an old truck stop.

Safety-Kleen used to buy the jet fuel that was de-fueled from the airliners at O'Hare. It is very close to kerosene if that is cheaper.
