Okay, creating some sort of video section for members to upload movies has been in the plans for a while now. There are a few different options being considered, so I'd like to get some feedback and thoughts from everybody else here as well.

    Option 1:

Youtube type video site, separate from the main site and forums. It would be something like movies.hydrodyners.com or such, and would more or less be just like Youtube. ex. http://ublooper.com/

    Advantages:

    Would look pretty nice
Allows for members to store all their videos in a "gallery"

    Disadvantages:

Would not be integrated with the main site or forum, per se
Do we have enough videos to warrant it?
All videos would be converted to Flash automatically...may do weird things to size or quality
Doesn't readily allow for saving of videos (could be good or bad)
Would require separate log-in, i.e. logging in to the forum would not log you into that site, and vis-versa

    Option 2:

Some sort of form for uploading videos, with a separate video section added to the forum. It would basically be a secure form (would require logging in with your forum username/password) and would kick back a link that could be posted in the forum or integrated in the video forum like viewtopic.php?p=6339#p6339 or viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1147

    Advantages:

    Simple
Member videos could easily be integrated in the forum (video section or any other section of the forum)

    Disadvantages:

Would require members to go to a separate form/webpage to upload the videos

    Option 3:

Allow larger files/videos as attachments on the forum itself

    Advantages:

    Can be implemented immediately

    Disadvantages:

Does not allow for previewing/showing the videos in the forum itself. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.
Not necessarily as nice as the other
Allows for many different video formats...no standard (could possibly be fixed so that all videos are converted to a universal format)

Other options? I'm open to ideas. If you look at Jim's post, the option does exist to embed Youtube videos in the forums here. I personally would like to keep all the videos on the server here, just for the sake not having to rely on a 3rd party service for content. If you look at some other forums out there, that don't allow attachments, you see a lot of broken links for pictures that were uploaded to Photobucket, other file sharing services, etc. Just looks really bad, and pretty much ruins the content in the posts. I'd like to avoid that.

I added a poll just for kicks, but would much rather get some written feedback and opinions here.

    Thanks guys and gals!

I voted for option 2 only because I think it would be nice to have all the videos in a central location. If they are spread all through the forum in posts it might make them hard to find later.

I personally like the way it is now with Daniel doing the editing. I know it is a big work load on him, but he does a great job. It makes his job a lot easier if the submitted videos are in an internet friendly format.

The reason I posted the youtube video was to show the members that they can post their own videos now if they wish.
