1972 Keel Up Restoration

The marine stuff is pretty tough.

 

The fill and vent were placed way up front as per my specification. I do know that it would be hard to replace hardware way up front under the deck once the deck is permanantly mounted but I figgured this restoration should last 30 years. After 30 years I probably will not be around and who would do a 3rd restoration on a 75 year old boat?

 

Who made the tank how much?

2 days of work - here is day 1:

 

I am doing this from my phone so it's a little more difficult. I glassed the Bow shelf prior to installing the tank. then I started on some electrical work: the white thing is a GPS antenna. I also glassed some thin pieces of plywood to the bottom of the motor well and this is where the rigging hoses will attach:

Day 2 we put the deck on to fit the motor well parts. that piece is the one that had the 2 thin pieces of plywood glassed in in an earlier pic. The dark stuff around the edges is fiberglass jelly. Very useful for sealing cracks so they don't leak resin when tabbed in. the motor well base goes all the way forward to the front of the arch where it will be glassed in for structural integrity and also to help support the ski pole. this along with the transom and the sides of the splash well will make a box which should be very strong and with the three other knees I should have a bulletproof structure.

 

Then I cut and mounted the rear arch And tabbed in the bottom motor well piece. The wax paper is so the arch does not adhere to the motor well bottom.

 

Work completed for now.
