My 18 is used exclusively for water ski towing. It is the best boat out there for our type of skiing. Are any of you waterskiing with your Dyne? The picture was taken in my yard here in FL. I designed that ski and she won the nationals on it. I also designed the prop on the boat. jim
I do water skiing, knee boarding and wake boarding with mine here is a pic off my friend behind my boat in his board.
Look at how high that boat is planing with four guys, two motors and towing. They act like they are filled with helium. It is an amazing hull design for waterskiing. The inboards don't plane that high empty. My daughter and her family just left after two weeks down here with us. She skied on everything I own including a canoe paddle. We had great fun doing 360's around the boat. She did that with three different skiis. jim
Jim I am going to upload a movie and link it to here. Of a hydrodyne that my step dad used to ski behind in guam doing the 360 thing. It should be up here by this evening. I think you will enjoy it. Circa 1969.
I would like to see that. It is good to see you young people keeping the dream alive. I have never understood why the Dynes are not more popular as a family tow boat. They have been used extensively in WI and the midwest as club boats. Tom Miller still sells a few 20's to the local clubs every year. There is no alternative for hauling multiple pyramids etc. The 17.6 is a good family ski boat and the 18 is the hotrod. jim
Two Mercs, Thanks for the new video, I enjoyed that. It looks like you have a tradition of twin rigs in your family. jim
I recognize that area in the tube shot! Could it be cuz I have been going there for 20 years now? LOL!
Why yes Denise that is the beach that was not there this year. That was the first year that we came in 2004. So much fun I can't wait until next year. Daniel
I thought it was so funny how Todd kept saying "Why haven't we ever used this cove before, this is perfect." I said "cuz it never exsisted cuz the water hasn't been this level in the 20 years we have been coming here!" LOL!
Hi Jim I agree with your comments on the Dynes. The "other" Dyna-Ski guy (not Tom Miller) wanted to sell me a Dyna-Ski and I'd have spent less if I would have taken him up on that. However, as nice as those boats are, they don't compare to the older 18's from my perspective from a driver's standpoint. I understand that the 17.6s and 20s do some things better. I also recognize that you need the longer boat with the wider and deeper hull to handle today's heavier multiple V6 engines but you lose something in the deal. You lose the shallow draft of the 18, which seems to handle more like a water sled than a boat. Of course, I'm a slalom guy and I like the little wake of the 18. And I like DRIVING. That part of the equation has been completely ignored in the new inboards, which to me are utterly boring to drive. Utility, good speed holding, perhaps. Fun, no. Heavy and slow. And shallow water operation (which is a reality for many of us near the dock)? Not quite. Last year when I was at the Ski Show in Minocqua, it seemed like the Dyna-Ski outboard was the primary work horse for the show. I found that curious. I'll be up there next week. I'll be interested to see how they use their boats this year. Spent my weekend pulling skiiers behind the family Glastron (135 Optimax) up in Boulder Junction and had fun but I hate trying to see where I'm going with people sitting in front of me. I don't think my Hydrodyne will be ready until next spring because the painter is taking his time and I don't have it back yet. The trailer is done. My new seats have arrived. But still no boat... I'll send some pictures when I get it back so you can see it before it is rigged. Take care
