You need to tap on the bottom. Did you measure it? If it is a 20, it is the only one I have heard of. I would like to see a picture, and it should be documented because there are no 70's 20's on this forum. Hydrodyne did build some 20 flat tops, house boats and work boats in the 60's.

If you don't want it, you could probably advertise it here and sell it for them. If it really is a 20 and looks like mine, it should sell in one day.

I did not pull the deck to replace my floor. The proper way to replace the transom on an outboard is to pull the deck. It is not the only way, and it is expensive.

ok. no I didn't measure it I just asked him and he said 20 foot 2 inches. but anyway im going back to talk to him tomorrow, he doesn't want money he wants an 84 chevy truck I have. I don't think he knows what he has in this boat. he got it in a trade from person I sold it too I suppose and he has been fishing out of it. I will take a picture of it tomorrow, or if I can upload them somehow I have hundreds of pics of it just not on a computer. and no such luck on the ski pylon or original seats that were in it, said they went to scrap yard. go figure. but im thinking I can get some aluminum and make a replica of it. would love for it to be original as possible. if not guess I could put a wakeboard tower on it haha

The seat frames are heat treated aluminum. They would have to be formed and heat treated. Not an insurmountable task. The tow pylon could be fabricated also.

Take Dynebob's post seriously. He has owned a bunch of Dynes. They do deteriorate when left outside.

My boat is an I/O that I converted to an outboard. It has never had a transom and does not need one now. The I/O has a pretty well protected transom. It could be bad, tap test it.

In case you do not know, the carb, starter, fuel pump, and alternator are marine components and are different from the auto parts.

Does the trailer have a belly pan?

yea Dynebob's post is same thing that has been running thru my mind. but Dynes just call my name and the history and memories with this particular boat after all these years is just priceless to me but unfortunately my bank account says other wise. there are really so few around that most people are in awe when they see them. same way I was my first time. but yes ive been around boats my whole life actually just never one that the floor, stringers and transoms were questionable. I was taught to take immaculate care of boats so they wouldn't get to that point. but it was raining today, in the boat, so im goin tomorrow to look again hopefully get it. really wanted to go get a tarp at least and put over it but since being out in the weather for least six years that he knows of. I didn't figure it really mattered for one more day. but thankyou mr jim for all your input and advice and ill keep yall up to date

There is nothing like a Dyne. Mine will be left to my daughter, who is a member of this forum.

We have had a lot of fun with it including many show ski tournaments that she was in.

I never cared much for the aft deck on the outboard. So when we converted mine, I designed my own aft deck and splash-well. I used the I/O pylon because it gets the tow point further forward.

There are videos in the media section.

    Jim,

You are correct. John at Dyna -Ski will only do the transom on one of those if he pulls the deck.

I had another 18 outboard that had a transom replaced and they removed about 24" of the rear deckand then scabbed the piece back in and covered the glassed in seam with non skid. What a butchered up job. I guess the person I bought that boat from didn't want it done right .

    Hey Trey:
I'll bet you $0.05 that you have an 18' that was "dressed up" like a 20 (see attached link, got to read it all the way through). The first documented Hydrodyne i/o 20 was built in 1984 and is owned by a member (Vann Owens) on this site and pics were included in Jim's previous post. I have boat #2 built in 1985 and restored the past two years. As Jim also indicated, these are "rare" and if you believe that you have a 1978 20 i/o, we'd like to see pics with measurements in the pics if possible.

No offence to your find as the 18 and 20's are really great/fun boats to own, restore, and drive, it's just that the 20 i/o's are the equivalent of "hens teeth"....as in they really exist in small #'s as in less than 7 produced since boat #1.

    Here is the link.

    Trey,

There is another way to check the transom for water, it is not foolproof. Remove one or both of the speedometer pickups and see if water comes out of the screw holes.
