I would also be interested in a bunk type new trailer for my 18. I have an original 1979 Spartan trailer that's pretty rusted out. It has the black rollers that are always marking up the botton of the boat. Marty
Here are a few pictures of my Dyne "batwing" trailer during it's refurbishing stages. The fiberglass deck is now black Imron and the frame was painted (black) and then sprayed with Rino-Lining. Bob
That is a very cool design. Thanks for the pictures. I wondered how it was built. It gave me some new ideas. jim
That is a very cool trailer. I have two 2x12" that are 12 feet long that run under my Dyne. It is high enough up that I tow with my engines in the down position and still have about 8 inches clearance. Daniel
Daniel, My engine is within 1 inch in the down position. Since I launch on the beach in my yard, this allows me to get the boat in without submersing the jeep differential. It also decreases the air drag on the boat when towing since I tow behind a car that is fairly low. I can also reach into the boat from the ground when it is on the trailer. The problem is designing a trailer that will accommodate the fin and still be low. I love those California style jet boat trailers that are very low. Did you notice that the springs on the trailer are under the axle with lowering blocks. I have never seen that on a boat trailer. I solved the rear cross member problem by making it removable. It is a pain to have to remove it before launch. The fiberglass pan is not just cosmetic. When you put the motor in reverse, it pushes water under the boat and helps lift it off of the bunks. It helps on loading too. Pretty cool huh? jim
Before I get off of my soapbox, it looks to me like the fiberglass insert also provides stiffness to prevent the frame from flexing which is a problem with boat trailers. That is why you see a lot of aluminum Florida trailers with deep bunks fastened to only two cross members. The big bunks provide the stiffness for the boat allowing the frame to flex. In my conversations with Ab Jr I learned very quickly that he is an innovator. I don't know who designed that trailer, but a lot of thought went into it IMHO. jim
Got your e mail Bob. Hey, nice photos! If I run across anymore I will send them for your scrap book. Greg
Hey nice picture Bob. I'll bet I've seen at least 50 pictures of that boat but I never get tired of looking at them. I'm anxious to see it in person in the spring. MarkBano
Mark, As you know, I'm constantly trying to make improvements on the boat. I'm attaching a photo of the newest addition.... Bob
